The Third Annual Cupcake Run 5k and 1 Mile Cake Walk, presented by Athleta and Sweet by Holly, will take place on April 8, 2017 at the St Johns Town Center. Over 2,000 are expected to attend and all proceeds will benefit Girls on the Run of Northeast Florida.
Sweeter than your average race, each finisher will receive a Sweet by Holly cupcake at the finish line. In addition, all participants will receive a race shirt, unique finisher medal and vouchers for two mini cupcakes and frozen yogurt that can be used immediately or at a later date.
Additionally, the overall first place finisher will win cupcakes for a year from Sweet by Holly. The second place finisher will win free cupcakes for six months. Prizes will be awarded for the top three finishers per age group. There will also be prizes awarded to the Best Cupcake Costume, Most Icing (most decorative accessories) and Best Family Ensemble.
“One look at a race calendar and you know our community loves to run! We thought a cupcake run would be a sweet twist on your typical race. Who doesn’t love cupcakes?” Girls on the Run Executive Director Laura Lasko said.
The 5k will begin at 7:30 am and the 1 mile fun run will begin at 8:30 am. The races are open to any age, but you must be registered and have a race bib to be on the course. The races are stroller-friendly, but those with strollers are asked to start at the back.
The price increases on March 10, 2017, and then again on the day of registration. Up until March 10, the cost for the Cupcake Run is $35 and the Cake Walk is $20. Up until April 3, the cost for the Cupcake Run is $40 and the Cake Walk is $20. Online registration closes on April 3rd. Day of registration costs $45 and $25 for the Cupcake Run and Cake Walk, respectively.
A special thank you to Nemours Children’s Specialty Care of Jacksonville for sponsoring this event, along with four other Girls on the Run events. Girls on the Run is looking for vendors and business partners that would like to be a part of this event. A vendor can set up its own tent or table at the event, while a business partner has its logo printed on the back of race shirts in addition to having vendor space at the event. Business Partner sponsorships are due March 8th, while vendors will be accepted to the end of March.
Money raised from the Cupcake Run will stay local, benefitting Girls on the Run of Northeast Florida. The funding is used to pay for scholarships, which provides the program to girls who need financial assistance. Scholarships account for approximately half of all participants, which equaled 420 girls for the Fall season. Girls on the Run inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. At the conclusion of the 10-week program, girls complete a celebratory 5k event, giving them a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. Since 2004, Girls on the Run of Northeast Florida has served over 12,000 girls throughout Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau and St. John’s counties.
